Private tutor in Saginaw, MI

Education

Senior Biology Major, Chemistry Minor at Saginaw Valley State University 3.71 GPA Currently applying to medical school for the 2014-2015 academic year Academic Honors: Honors Program Member, National Society of Collegiate Scholars Member, Dean's List (7 semesters), and recipient of several private scholarships.

Experience

3 years experience as paid professional tutor of biology and chemistry at the Center for Academic Achievement at SVSU Relevant classes taken at SVSU: General Chemistry I&II, Organic Chemistry I&II, Biochemistry I&II, General Biology, Zoology, Botany, Cell Biology, Anatomy and Physiology, Microbiology, History of Biology, Developmental Biology, Genetics, Endocrinology. Will be taking Evolution and Ecology at SVSU this fall. My position as a tutor at SVSU has been the most rewarding job I've ever had. It is my job to thoroughly inform, affirm, and encourage the students who approach me with their questions. As I regularly interact with a wide variety of students - from non-traditional to international - tutoring gives me the opportunity to practice communicating the same idea with different methods so that my words may have the greatest impact. I have had the privilege of tutoring a handful of students who have gone on to become tutors themselves. I am very passionate about learning - few things make me happier than watching as a difficult concept finally clicks into place for a student.

Hobbies

I am involved in the leadership of several student groups, such as Phi Delta Epsilon Pre-Medical Professional Fraternity and Gap Christian Fellowship - with whom I recently co-led a mission trip to Haiti! I love to travel! I have been to six different countries (Norway, Peru, Haiti, China, Japan, and Taiwan) and I often drive back to Green Bay, WI to visit my family and the dairy farm I grew up on. My favorite music genre is classic rock - 60s, 70s, and 80s. I love the color purple, Star Wars Episode V, and almost every flavor of popcorn. In my spare time, I love to read mystery novels, sketch Disney characters, play Mario Kart Wii, and watch episode after episode of Scooby-Doo. I plan to start running this fall and slowly work my way up to a 5K - hopefully that goes well!
